Cellock Ltd, a Research & Development and Software Development company, specializing in Artificial Intelligence, participates in the high-profile project titled “Enhancing Earth Observation capabilities of the Eratosthenes Centre of Excellence on Disaster Risk Reduction through Artificial Intelligence” – AI-OBSERVER.
Cellock in collaboration with the ERATOSTHENES Centre of Excellence, will lead the important aspect of the commercialisation, exploitation and product development of AI-OBSERVER, a project under the framework of the Horizon Europe call Twinning – HORIZON-WIDERA-2021-ACCESS-03, with a total budget of €1,489,379.
The four-party consortium consists of the ERATOSTHENES Centre of Excellence (ECoE) as the coordinator, the German Research Centre for Artificial Intelligence (DFKI) from Germany and University of Rome Tor Vergata (UNITOV) from Italy, and the industrial partner CELLOCK Ltd (CLK) from Cyprus.
The AI-OBSERVER project will start in October 2022, and its implementation period is 36 months. Prof. Diofantos Hadjimitsis, Managing Director of the ECoE, is the project coordinator and Principal Investigator (PI) from ECoE, whereas the other partners’ PIs are Dr Alain Pagani (DFKI), Prof. Fabio Del Frate (UNITOV) and Dr Haris Zacharatos (CLK).
The AI-OBSERVER project aims to significantly strengthen and stimulate the scientific excellence and innovation capacity, as well as the research management and administrative skills of the ECoE, through several capacity building activities on Artificial Intelligence (AI) for Earth Observation (EO) applications in the Disaster Risk Reduction thematic area of the ECoE, upgrading its current Resilient Society Department, and its Research Management and Administration Departments, and assisting the ECoE to reach its long-term objective of raised excellence on AI for EO on environmental hazards.

This close and strategic partnership between the ECoE and Cellock from Cyprus with and the two international research institutions, DFKI from Germany and UNITOV from Italy, will lead to a research exploratory project on the application of AI on EO for multi-hazard monitoring and assessment in Cyprus.
